At the end of this session participants will be able to:

Medication Awareness

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Medication Awareness (The Legal Aspects)
  • Receiving and storing of medication
  • Different types of medication and adverse reactions
  • Guidelines for administration of medications
  • Drug errors and disposal of medication
  • Stage six Assessment and Certification

Basic Life Support

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • List actions to be taken in the event of an emergency occurring at their place of work
  • Use cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods, including use of an AED
  • Provide first aid to an unconscious casualty
  • Provide first aid to a choking casualty
  • Describe the correct actions to take with regard to control of wounds and bleeding
  • Describe the correct actions to take with regard to a range of other first aid situations
 

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of their End-of-Life Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe the key principles of palliative care and end of life care
  • Describe the principles of good practice within the process of advance care planning
  • Explain the purpose of assessment in end-of-life care
  • Explain what is included in a holistic assessment
  • Describe the core steps in the assessment of symptoms to reach a diagnosis Describe the principles of good communication in end-of-life care

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Epilepsy Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand what epilepsy is and its prevalence in the UK
  • Know the cause of epilepsy, the symptoms and how it is diagnosed
  • Know what a seizure is and the main types
  • Understand how epilepsy is treated
  • Have an awareness of the common epilepsy drugs and their side effects
  • Understand the importance of people with an epilepsy condition staying safe
  • Implement epilepsy awareness measures in the workplace

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Equality & Diversity responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will have an awareness of the following:

  • Equality and diversity at work
  • Key anti-discrimination legislation
  • The impact of discrimination on individuals and the community
  • Their legal rights and responsibilities
  • The benefits a diverse workforce can bring to healthcare organization

Aim This course will enable participants to prepare food safely and maintain correct food hygiene practices at home and at work. Objectives At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Describe the legal requirement with regard to food hygiene and safety
  • Explain the results of poor food hygiene practices at work and at home
  • Recognise the causes of food poisoning
  • Recognise food poisoning symptoms
  • Understand the importance of good personal hygiene
  • Understand the importance of correct food handling and preparation at

Objectives At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of hydration, nutrition, and food safety
  • Support individuals to have access to fluids in accordance with their care plan
  • Support individuals to have access to food and nutrition in accordance with their care

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • State their obligations and that of their employers with regard to infection
  • Understand the consequences of poor infection control
  • State the actions to be taken in relation to the infection control requirements put in place within their working environment.
  • Identify the correct actions with regard to a range of different infection control situations

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Dementia Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to improve care delivered to people with dementia
  • Understand how to support relationships of people with dementia
  • List reasons for behavior we may find difficult
  • List the different types of dementia
  • Understand what it may be like to have dementia

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the carer when providing personal care
  • Understand incontinence and its control
  • Describe the importance of personal hygiene procedures
  • Understand pressure sores and how they can be avoided

Objectives At the end of the session participants will in relation to MCA & DOL’s be able to:

  • List the functions of the Mental Capacity
  • Describe the groups that will be affected by the legislation
  • Explain what is meant by the term ‘best interests
  • Explain the role of Lasting Power of Attorneys
  • Describe the function of the Court of Protection
  • Explain the Deprivation of Liberty

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Explain what is meant by the term ‘an Adult at Risk’
  • List the forms abuse may take
  • Recognise signs and symptoms of abuse
  • Understand how to respond appropriately to disclosures of abuse
  • Understand the legislation and guidance concerning safeguarding adults at risk

Safeguarding Children at Risk

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Know about child maltreatment in its different forms
  • Know about relevance of parental, family, and carer factors such as domestic abuse, mental and physical ill-health, substance, and alcohol misuse
  • Know what to do if there are concerns about child maltreatment
  • Know about the importance of sharing information
  • Know what to do if they feel that their concerns are not being taken seriously
  • Know the risks associated with the internet and online social networking
  • Know what the term ‘Looked after child’ means
  • Be able to recognise possible signs of child maltreatment as this relates to their role
  • Be able to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that they have been listened to

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • List their obligations and that of their employer regarding fire safety
  • Describe actions to be taken in the event of a fire occurring at work
  • Identify the correct fire extinguisher for use on a range of different fires
  • Describe how fires occur and spread
  • Describe how they can reduce the risk of fire
  • Understand how they may reduce the threat of fire in their homes
  • Understand the duties that are undertaken by the fire marshal
