Moving And Handling

At the end of this session participants will be able to: 

Understand legislation and the correct procedure in utilising mechanical aids in the safe handling and moving

PUWER, LOLER and the Manual Handling Regulations Operations (1992)

The anatomy of the spine

How to risk assess using E.L.I.T.E safe principles

The importance of reducing risk and removing hazards

Medication Awareness

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

Medication Awareness (The Legal Aspects)

Basic Life Support 

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

List actions to be taken in the event of an emergency occurring at their place of work

Use cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods, including use of an AED

Provide first aid to an unconscious casualty

Provide first aid to a choking casualty

Describe the correct actions to take with regard to control of wounds and bleeding.

Describe the correct actions to take with regard to a range of other first aid situations

 

 

End Of Life

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of their End-of-Life Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

Describe the key principles of palliative care and end of life care

Describe the principles of good practice within the process of advance care planning

Explain the purpose of assessment in end-of-life care

Explain what is included in a holistic assessment

Describe the core steps in the assessment of symptoms to reach a diagnosis Describe the principles of good communication in end-of-life care

 

Epilepsy Awareness

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Epilepsy Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

Understand what epilepsy is and its prevalence in the UK

Know the cause of epilepsy, the symptoms and how it is diagnosed

Know what a seizure is and the main types

Understand how epilepsy is treated

Have an awareness of the common epilepsy drugs and their side effects

Understand the importance of people with an epilepsy condition staying safe

Implement epilepsy awareness measures in the workplace

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Equality & Diversity responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will have an awareness of the following:

Food Hygiene

 

Aim This course will enable participants to prepare food safely and maintain correct food hygiene practices at home and at work. Objectives At the end of the session participants will be able to:

Describe the legal requirement with regard to food hygiene and safety

Explain the results of poor food hygiene practices at work and at home

Recognise the causes of food poisoning

Recognise food poisoning symptoms

Understand the importance of good personal hygiene

Nutrition & Fluids

Objectives At the end of the session participants will be able to:

Understand the principles of hydration, nutrition, and food safety

Support individuals to have access to fluids in accordance with their care plan

Support individuals to have access to food and nutrition in accordance with their care

Infection Control

At the end of this session participants will be able to:State their obligations and that of their employers with regard to infection

Understand the consequences of poor infection control

State the actions to be taken in relation to the infection control requirements put in place within their working environment.

Identify the correct actions with regard to a range of different infection control situations

Dementia Awareness

Aim: This course will enable participants to have a greater understanding of Dementia Care responsibilities. At the end of the session participants will be able to:

Understand how to improve care delivered to people with dementia

Understand how to support relationships of people with dementia

List reasons for behavior we may find difficult

List the different types of dementia

Understand what it may be like to have dementia

Personal & Pressure Care

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

Understand the role of the carer when providing personal care

Understand incontinence and its control

Describe the importance of personal hygiene procedures

Safeguarding Children at Risk

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

Know about child maltreatment in its different forms

Know about relevance of parental, family, and carer factors such as domestic abuse, mental and physical ill-health, substance, and alcohol misuse

Know what to do if there are concerns about child maltreatment

Know about the importance of sharing information

Know what to do if they feel that their concerns are not being taken seriously

Know the risks associated with the internet and online social networking

Know what the term ‘Looked after child’ means

Be able to recognise possible signs of child maltreatment as this relates to their role

Fire Safety and Fire Marshall Course

At the end of this session participants will be able to:

List their obligations and that of their employer regarding fire safety

Describe actions to be taken in the event of a fire occurring at work

Identify the correct fire extinguisher for use on a range of different fires

Describe how fires occur and spread

Describe how they can reduce the risk of fire
